At Elmhurst School we believe that providing a motivating science curriculum will help to develop children’s excitement, curiosity and understanding about the world around them.
We endeavour to help children develop their understanding of scientific ideas by using different types of scientific enquiry to answer their own questions. These include:
Where possible, science is taught through the use of first hand practical experiences within the classroom, school grounds or local area. This allows children to explore and talk about their ideas; ask their own questions; compare and contrast functions, relationships and interactions within a more meaningful context.
We endeavour to help children develop their understanding of scientific ideas by using different types of scientific enquiry to answer their own questions. These include:
- observing changes over a period of time
- noticing patterns
- grouping and classifying
- comparative/fair testing
- finding things out using secondary sources of information (research)
