Summary, Context and the Consultation Process

As a part of your child’s educational experience at Elmhurst School, we are committed to delivering high quality lessons in PSHE (which we refer to as Learning for Life) which gives children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future.

The Department for Education has made changes to Relationships and Sex Education (which falls under the PSHE Curriculum) following nationwide consultation which comes into effect this academic year and all schools are required to comply with the updated requirements. The statutory guidance can be found in the link below:

RSE and PSHE education is a partnership between schools and parents and carers. We hope that consulting with you will help to share all relevant information and policies with you so that you are aware of what will be taught and how it will be delivered to your children. It is also useful for us to gather feedback from the community so that we may take this into consideration when delivering this essential-yet sensitive-topic.

The consultation process will be as follows:

  • Monday, 21 September- Consultation Opens
  • Week Beginning Monday, 28 September- Survey links sent out via text message and phone survey calls made
  • Wednesday, 14 October-Question and Answer Sessions on Zoom
  • Monday, 19 October-Consultation Closes

We ask that you please read the policies and watch the video/read the PowerPoint to familiarise yourself with the content and then share your feedback with us. We would really value hearing your views and would be happy to answer any questions that you may have.

You may submit your feedback via the Forms link below. Alternatively, you can request a paper copy at the School Office. Please note that a random selection of parents will also be contacted via phone to share their views.

The consultation will close on Monday, 19 October 2020 and you will be able to submit your feedback up until this point.
